Lisbon - The city of colorful building as the rainbow flag

Portugal

One of the things that impressed me the most in Lisbon was the incredible Brazilian influence that you can see on every corner of the city. This immaculate city is a safe haven for the gay community with vintage trams that travel up the pristine hills.

If you’re the type of gay traveller that loves to “get lost” as you walk the gorgeous streets visiting the many tourist attractions, try checking out “Praca de Comercio”, “Castelo de Sao Jorge”, or even “Se Catedral.” These places are absolutely amazing. You can even head to the Suspension Bridge, Ponte 25 de Abris, over the Tagus River. The view is incredible and you get some great shots there.

The gay life in Lisbon is a tad quieter than some other major cities in Europe. Though, there are tons of local gay men you can meet, so don’t worry about that! Lisbon has a popular gay area called “Bairro Alto”, a place filled with gay and gay-friendly bars that are in very close proximity to each other. The prices there are very affordable, far cheaper than London or Paris.

Even though Lisbon is a very safe city, just keep an eye on your belongings. You never know what might happen.

I believe the perfect time to visit Lisbon, Portugal is in the spring or autumn for a chance to go on a city-break. The summers can get really hot. I was there in the hottest month and I felt like I was boiling. It was hard to explore the city on foot under the heat. Though, it gets kind of chilly in the evenings and at night, so that’s an upside to the summer!

One of the best gay beaches in Lisbon is Beach 19, which is around 30km away. If you’re the type of gay traveller who’s looking for a nude, gay time under the sun, give this a try! It’s gorgeous!

Enjoy your trip!
